Episode #316: Preparing for the 2nd half of the year
TAYLOR BRADFORD: You are listening to episode number 316 of the Boss Girl Creative podcast. Today I’m talking about prepping and preparing for the second half of the year. On to the episode.
Hello, and welcome to Episode 316. I am your host, Taylor Bradford. And I’m excited that you’re here because we are chatting about preparing and planning for the second half of the year, which is upon us, like right now, which is crazy. I don’t know where this year has already gone. I feel like that’s such a cliche, too, because I feel like we all say that. I have watched some Instagrammers and some YouTubers lately, and they’re like, how did we get here? How? How, like, seriously, it’s the second half of the year almost. And I’m like, we always say that. And then it makes me think, what did we think was gonna happen when we got here when we were in January – the beginning of January? What do we think was going to happen? And did we have time to implement? Or did we make time to implement what we wanted to accomplish before we got to the halfway point of the year?
So that’s what we’re going to talk about today. Before I dive in the Inner Circle membership doors, reopen August the first. If you want to get yourself into the Inner Circle, which I’m telling you, you definitely do. You definitely want to be in there. It’s $27 a month, and you need to go to bossgirlcreative.com/Inner Circle to get yourself on the waitlist. It’s amazing. You definitely want to be in there, get yourself on the waitlist, go to bossgirlcreative.com/Inner Circle.
Alright, let’s dive into preparing for the second half of the year because it is, again, legit upon us. So let’s just get straight to it. Number one for preparing for the second half of this year is, we’ve got to celebrate what we’ve actually accomplished so far this year. And I know, as I was previously saying, that we get to this point in the year, like, where did it go? And I feel like that mentality means that we didn’t sit long enough or celebrate long enough what we actually did accomplish in the first half of the year. So that’s what I want to focus on first is what did you accomplish in the first half of this year, sit with that, celebrate that pop a bottle of bubbly, go out with your friends, like you have to make an effort to celebrate what it is that you did accomplish, because I think it is a lot about mindset with how we are successful or how we get successful or find success when we get to December 31 of this year. So that is the first focus when you are preparing and planning for this second half of this year is we need to sit down and write down everything that we accomplished. Little or big, small or large, whatever it might be that you felt was a total win in your book, let’s say you exercise three days a week since the beginning of the year, or you change your eating habits, or you booked the best ever client and they told 10 of their closest friends about you. What did you accomplish in the first half a year? And I want you to celebrate all of them. Like, legit, make time to celebrate all of them.
Alright, number two, it’s time to gather the data. And I mean, all of the data, I want you to create a spreadsheet with your client customer sales. I have a sales tracker that I’m going to gift to the Inner Circle members, and so I will get that up into the Patreon platform for you guys to access pretty soon. So track your client customer sales. I want you to look at that data as well. I want you to record how many times you engaged with customers. Like, let’s say they got into your sales funnel, or they started their interest with what it is that you have. And I want you to record how often you had an inquiry. You need to be recording this as the inquiries are happening. That way, you can track to see whether or not they were an ideal client, and you’ll get metrics from that by tracking from inquiry to booking, to follow up, etc. So how many times did you engage with customers? And what is your process from the interest of the customer to the sale to the delivery of the service to the follow-up? What is that workflow look like? Have you mapped it out? in detail? How much time are you spending on administrative tasks? How much time are you spending networking? And then also record the data of your social media statistics, your email, newsletter statistics, and your website statistics. You want to see it in a complete picture. What is that data telling you?
Number three, I want you to ask yourself these questions. Where are you currently right now, in this moment? Where are you currently? Because I need you to appreciate the here. And now. You’ve got to appreciate where you’ve come from. Where are you currently? What are your current offerings? What out of what you sell? What are your current offerings? What products, what services? What price points? What are you currently offering to sell to people? Where do you want to be? So if you look forward to December 31, where do you want to be? And then how do you want to get there? Quantifiably, how do you want to get there? So you want to say you want to make X amount more dollars this year? Or you want to sell X amount of this particular item? Or you want to fill in the blank? How do you get there, quantifiably? How do you get there? So if we look forward to 1231, December 31. What wins? Do you want to be celebrating on that day? What wins? Do you want to be popping the champagne for? How would these achievements make you feel? How would they make your life better? How would they set you up for success for the next year? What do you want to start doing? What do you want to stop doing? And what do you want to continue doing? That’s how you get there. Quantifiably, that’s how you get there.
Number four, get clear on the experience of your brand. So important. Going back into the gathering of the data, where I asked you to think about what your process is from interest of sale to delivery and then even afterwards, how do you follow up? Get clear on the experience of your brand? What do you want your ideal customers to experience from you? What do you want them to experience from your brand? This is part of your what and your why. Part of your pillars. So incredibly important for you to get crystal clear on the experience of your brand. You could have all the best processes in the world, but until you define what the actual experience is, it’s not going to make a hill of beans on what your processes are because the experience is what keeps customers coming back. The experience is what keeps customers referring you new business. So you absolutely have to get clear on the experience of your brand. And I need you to do this soon. If you haven’t done it. You’ve got to get clear on that.
Number five, I need you to show up for yourself. I know life can get in the way. I know we have the greatest of intentions when we start out the new year. I know we have the greatest of intentions when we start planning and working on what we want to happen in our businesses and even in our lives. And I know that life can get in the way. But I need your intention to be focused on showing up for yourself. Because ultimately, you are creating the life that you want to be living, and whatever that looks like right now, you ultimately created that. And if you’re not happy with that, it’s time to change. If you are happy with that, then keep doing what you’re doing. But it starts with showing up for yourself because you are your biggest cheerleader. You are your biggest supporter. I can’t tell you how many times in life where I’ve leaned on people that ultimately completely made me feel like a different smaller version of myself. Like I place trust in humans that I thought were cheerleaders for me when ultimately, they had ulterior motives. And I allow that and those feelings to literally consume me. And then I realized when I stepped back that I had stopped showing up for myself, that I was leaning too far on others, to find joy, to push my business forward to all the things when I stopped showing up for myself and started really leaning on others, is when I kind of lost sight as to what I was hustling to do. So I need you to show up for yourself. This is how we move forward. This is how we create the lives we want to be living. We’ve got to show up for ourselves.
Okay, so here’s your to-do list. First, I need you to block some time on your calendar in the next week or so, just one to two hours. And I need you to remove all distractions, put your phone in airplane mode, remove all distractions, and work through these five things. I need you to perform your assessment. And then, once you’ve gone through all of these steps, I need you to take one action, at least one action, to push you forward because we lack in the implementation side of things. That is where we all fall short is implementation. We get stuck in the rat race of daily life. And we fail at implementing. So when you plan this day, whatever day it might be, it’s one to two hours of your time. Take that assessment, go through these steps and then take one action. So let me go back through the steps again. Number one, celebrate the successes of the year that actually might take longer than one to two hours. And I want you to either do that solo or do that with your business besties or whomever. Make a big deal out of it – that may take longer – but then set a time, this one to two hours on a particular day, remove all distractions to get through the rest.
Number two, gather all of the data, your sales, how often you were engaging with customers, that social media, that’s emails, etc. What your process is from interest to sale to delivery to follow up, how much time you’re spending on admin tasks, networking, what your stats are with your social media, your email, and your website, I need you to ask questions of yourself. Where are you currently? What are your current offerings? Or do you want to be how do you want to get there, quantifiably? How do you want to get there? How would your achievements make you feel if you got there? How would they make your life better? How would they set you up for success next year? And what do you want to start doing, stop doing and continue doing and then get clear on your experience of your brand? Those things are important. This is what is going to help set you up for success for the second half of the year. Prepare and plan and get that on your calendar. ASAP. Because 12-31-2021 is going to be here before we know it. And we don’t want to get caught not taking the reins and getting things done taking action implementing on these things. We don’t want to get to the end of the year and be like, ‘man, I really wish I would have done X, Y, and Z.’ It’s time to be way more intentional with how we spend our time, who we spend our time with and what we do in our businesses.
